Book Club Themes

Starting Book Clubs work best if wrapped around a theme.

There are endless themes that bind book club members toward a common interest in reading.  We uncovered such a variety.  Pick your own theme, such as starting a book club for singles, or get some ideas from the ones presented here.

* Best of…book lists (e.g. Oprah’s book list, best seller lists such as New York Times)

* Animals/pets

* Business and professional improvement books.

IDEA: Since my book club is made up of busy executives doing what we know best, we need to stay up on the latest trends…quickly!  Here’s a book recently published by Jennifer Abernethy, a good friend who is a leading authority on social marketing, what it means and why we need to know about it:

* Self help

* Religious study

* Gender, race or ethnic issues

* Travel

IDEA: Select a travel book based on your own dreams. Read the book then MAKE THE TRIP!   Okay, if you can’t travel to your favorite dream place, you can complement your reading with newsclippings and stories from others who have traveled to the same place. But don’t stop dreaming of traveling to places that expand your world. Lonely Planet is a source we trust and they offer discounts.

    You have given me a good idea to start a club. I have several friends who are stay at home dads. A book club would be good for us.
